Several EM/ER programs are underway in European waters. They include: EM aboard 23 Spanish tuna purse seiners to capture data and reduce costs; ER aboard larger Danish gillnetters and trawlers (>19 meters) to track vessel information and enable on-board weighing, grading and packing of catch; EM aboard 8 small Danish gillnetters to monitor seabird and marine mammal interactions; and EM to track fishing activity and locations of some 50 Danish mussel-harvesting vessels that operate in sensitive marine areas where only 5% of the areas can be fished in any given year.
