Monitoring for Change: EM & Wi-Fi Solutions for Social Responsibility

April 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am

Beginning in 2022, The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, Ocean Outcomes, and Global Fishing Watch piloted a project focused on enhancing transparency and verifying socially responsible labor practice on industrial fishing vessels. Partnering with Ocean Outcomes and industry leaders, the team tested electronic monitoring (EM) and Wi-Fi technologies on three industrial longline vessels in the western and central Pacific to combat illegal fishing and human rights abuses at sea.

The project explored how EM can monitor social and labor indicators on-the-water, providing insights into protecting fishers and supporting a worker-driven social responsibility system. Join our webinar to discover the key learnings from this pilot, including:

  • Which labor indicators can be monitored with EM and how.
  • The additional resources and costs required for labor reviews alongside environmental reviews.
  • The key conditions for successfully applying EM to labor monitoring.
  • How combining Wi-Fi with EM enhances worker welfare.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about innovative solutions for a more transparent and responsible fishing industry!
